US Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris encountered pushback from pro-Palestinian demonstrators.

During a speech, which was interrupted by chants of "Kamala, you can't hide, we won't vote for genocide," Harris rebuked the protestors, stating, “If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”

The Vice President’s response highlighted her balancing act between unwavering support for “Israel” and a growing openness to addressing “Israeli” actions in Gaza.

Recent reports and campaign statements have portrayed Harris as increasingly sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, particularly following her call for an end to the conflict in Gaza last month. This stance drew both support and criticism, notably from “Israeli” officials.

In the lead-up to the Detroit rally, Harris briefly met with Abbas Alawieh and Layla Elabed, founders of the Uncommitted National Movement.

The group, which led a protest vote within the Democratic Party against President Joe Biden’s stance on “Israel”, reported that Harris expressed openness to their proposal for an arms embargo on “Israel”.

However, Harris's campaign quickly countered, stating that the Vice President's focus remains on engaging with Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian communities while prioritizing a ceasefire and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

Further clarifying her position, Harris’s National Security Adviser, Phil Gordon, announced that the Vice President does not support an arms embargo on “Israel”.

Gordon emphasized that Harris is committed to protecting civilians in Gaza and upholding international humanitarian law, while continuing to support “Israel’s” right to defend itself against threats from Iran and Iranian-backed groups.
